The Fothergill team provides several land and water-based activities suited to individuals and families. Our guides are always on hand to share their wealth of wildlife knowledge.
The game viewing and photographic opportunities at Fothergill are awe-inspiring. On the plains, roaming lions prey on vast herds of antelope, zebra, and buffalo. Likewise, hippos and crocodiles traverse Kariba’s waters. Enjoy the sights on a game drive in one of our modified, canvas-covered 4x4 vehicles, include customisable seating, padded roll bars, interactive iPads, binoculars, and charging points for cameras and equipment.
Tread the same tracks as the Matusadona wildlife, breathing in the scent of crushed wild grasses, and enjoying your senses coming alive. Our guides expertly interpret the signs and sounds of the bush and pass on a passion for wildlife (and the smaller flora and fauna) that lasts a lifetime.
Safari cruises offer a one-of-a-kind opportunity to see iconic water-based wildlife scenes, like elephants playfully spraying water in the shallows, or exploring further afield to the brooding Sanyati Gorge. Morning or evening, you’ll be left speechless at the magnificent variety of birds and wildlife – and there’s always something cold (or warm!) to sip on as you cruise…
The gorges, bays, flooded forests, and floodplains are rich with tilapia and catfish, providing a paradise for experienced anglers and an good starting point for beginners. We have a full spectrum of world-class conventional and fly-fishing equipment and our superb guides have represented Zimbabwe for freshwater angling globally.
The Fothergill team is deeply committed to conservation and community. One of our primary objectives is to use sustainable sport fishing to create long-term meaningful and positive changes to the people, fauna, and flora within the area. In line with this, Fothergill promotes and practices catch and release fishing only.
The wellbeing and importance of family is an aspect of life we full-heartedly embrace. Our action-packed offerings ensure children of all ages are kept entertained (and educated) and allow families to share profound moments together. Our focused “mini ranger” course enhances children’s appreciation of nature, alongside fun-filled activities like archery, swimming, fishing and star gazing.
All meals at Fothergill are freshly prepared by our world-class team, from full English breakfasts as the morning sun rises over the water, colourful salads and freshly-baked bread under the gazebo at lunch, and three-course dinner sensations!
After an afternoon of safari and fishing activities, what better way to end the day than with sundowners and canapés at a beautiful spot on the banks of the lake, or out on the boat floating in the sun’s fading rays. Listen out for the calls of fish eagles and the heavy splash of tigerfish in the water, and reflect on another mesmerising day in paradise...
The gym is complete with exercise bikes, kettlebells, dumbbells, step benches, jump ropes, and more. Work up a sweat as the sun rises over Lake Kariba or enjoy some yoga with the sounds of the wilderness as your background music.
On a tour to Kariba, you will learn about the history of the wall's construction, the many people affected by its build (including our namesake Rupert Fothergill), and the developments that are still in the pipeline. During the tour, our team will set up a coffee stop overlooking the wall, after which it is off to browse through the local markets, visit the Santa Barbara church, and take some pictures at the scenic lookout point.
